  • Central heating isn't working but hot water works?

If your boiler is a combination boiler and you have hot water but no heating. Before you call a heating engineer it is wise to check the batteries on the room thermostat if it is battery powered. Small things to check before you call anyone out.

  • Want a radiator added on to system?

? This in commonly mistaken in the plumbing trade and many builders have carried out this sort of work without thinking about the heating system layout. The common rule is 3 radiators off of 15mm pipe. Anything more then it’s overpowering the system which will result in the rad added on not working to its full potential. In order to carry out this work successfully you would need to come off of 22mm pipe in order for the radiator and system to work to max capacity.

  • No heating and hot water on a pressurised system?

Another thing to check before calling out a heating engineer is to check the pressure in the heating system. This can be viewed at the pressure gauge usually at the front of the Boiler or if there is a cylinder the. Usually there by the vessel. The heating system should be at a bar and up to 2 bar when at full rate. If the pressure keeps dropping then this could be a sign of a leak or another issue which would be boiler related.
